"Aspirin is one of the standard medications used for the prevention of heart attack and stroke. But stopping aspirin therapy abruptly can sometimes endanger your heart and increase your risk for stroke. "If you've had a stroke, stent, heart attack, heart surgery or angina, don't stop taking aspirin without checking with your doctor first," says Nieca Goldberg, asst. clinical professor of medicine at New York University School of Medicine and chief of women's cardiac care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City."
