Are Your Finances In Order?

Being organized at home with things and other stuff is mostly a fulfilling task done. I am very particular in organizing and my husband can attest to that ;).
But did you know that one key component of organizing in your life includes getting your financial in order as well?

While many would probably say it may sound like a tough challenge, it can be easier in some ways and even probably enjoyable.

These tips can help;

  • First, try categorizing your expenses for a few months. This will help you gain control of your spending, so you can set a budget for each category tracking your progress every month.
  • Plan and focus for your daily purchases as well. Don't let your groceries or a cup of coffee get through your credit card balance, as you'll be paying large amount of interests.
This is one simple, but helpful guide to decluttering your finances. An organized finances will be worth it in the end as you'll be reaping the benefits year-round.

Stay-Safe Guides To Beat Summer Health Hazards

Summer is over, but it always comes every year, so I guess this post can still be handy at all times, to guide you when summer comes around. I won't consider it a late post or way much too early. Just think of it as a important thoughts as to how you could enjoy the outdoors by staying safe and avoiding the dangers.

If you love summer, and you have little kids that love outdoors too, take note that the dangers of the outdoor are everywhere. (actually not only summer, but also applies for the rest of the seasons too). But the fact that many of our children stay outside in the summer, we don't want them or us to spoil the fun we enjoy during the summer months. So, better yet stay on the safety zone guides.

If you love to jog, don't do it to a path you haven't walked first. This would only lead to sprains or slips.

Practice safety in gardening, like bending, lifting or twisting your body carefully as these can be strenous. Use tools with long handles to avoid stooping over too much.

Save your skin from developing a heat rash! It can help to wear breathable cotton clothing, avoid use of too much ointments and creams because they block sweat ducts. If you use sunscreens, use oil-free ones. If you develop a rash, get out of the heat and apply cold compresses. It also helps to use an OTC hydrocortisone cream to relieve itching.

Learn to familiarize harmful plants such as poison ivy, oak and sumac, as well as any hardy creepers that can be at the beach, on your backyard and even at the parks.

If you think you've come in contact with a harmful plant, wash immediately with soap and water. Follow it up with a hydrocortisone cream, calamine lotion diphenhydramine cream or oral antihistamines to help ease itching or swelling.

Beware of bees and mosquitoes. Sweet drinks are attractive to bees while standing water are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Avoid what these bugs like most, and you should be okay.

You can avoid stingers as well by not wearing bright-colored clothes. Dress in light colors like pastels. Besides, pastel colors can also help you spot ticks much easier if you happened to encounter one. By the way, avoid perfumes because it also attracts bees.

If you'll be staying outdoors for a long time, or you live where mosquitoes and ticks are common, spray your clothing with permethrin (repellant); - don't spray it on skin!
Otherwise, if you are staying outdoors for shorter stints, spray a skin-safe bug repellant such as Off! The more concentration, the longer they work.
If you are bitten, get some ice and compress on the affected area to keep swelling and itching to a minimum.

If you develop hives/itching all over and facial swelling or have trouble breathing, call 911. If you develop fever and aches, it can be signs of Lyme disease or a West Nile virus infection (transmitted by mosquitoes). See your doctor ASAP!

Setting A Beautiful Table The Right Way

Courtesy from Overstock

If you love to entertain at home, it would be nice to impress your guests on how you would handle table settings too, right? The following tips can probably help you if you don't have much experience setting tables for your home.

It's better to mix designs and color than matching them. For instance, if you have colorful sets of plates, you can use napkins and a tablecloth with the same shade but not the pattern. Avoid having everything in stripes!

It would also be nice to use a tablecloth as it unifies everything. Use large plates that are a base for the dinner salad, and dessert plates that easily come and go. Then, put 2 glasses per setting, - one for water and another for wine.

Choose centerpieces that are low that never hinders eye contact among guests. Flowers with 1 or 2 colors are ideal, and be sure they're not too fragrant so to avoid competing with the food.
If you use candles, they should also be scent-free and keep them low.

Herbs like rosemary, sage or thyme are mostly ideal if you are serving Italian food.

Finish it right with a pitcher of water or sparkling water. Have your guests have everything they need within their reach.

So, how do you take care of your music? For guitar lovers, for sure they would always be continously searching for the best instrument for their music to be better. There are tons of guitar models, with various qualities that are in stores today. How To Survive As A Bridesmaid!

Being a bridesmaid is a one tough job. Although many consider it as an honor doing it for your BFF or you beloved sister, you'll have to be sure you're doing your duties well, and at the same time maintaining your sanity and your relationship with the bride behind that glamorous look!

During The Bridal Shower:

  • Be sure to offer your own ideas too, and just don't "dis" other bridesmaids' ideas.
  • Pick your battles carefully; - keep your focus about the bride. Like, does the bride likes Mexican food? how about guac? Say so, and deal with it.
  • Don't go too much on favors as people leave them on the table. How about putting on some toward food and games?
During The Bachelorette Party:
  • Instead of considering strip clubs or going to Vegas, why not consider a sleepover, karaoke or perhaps a cooking class which can be more fun? ;)...and neater!
  • Keep a privacy pact with the other bridesmaids to agree by not broadcasting one's behavior on any social media (Tweeter, facebook, youtube, etc..)
During The "Big Day":
  • You can be the bride's BFF by easing her nerves before the wedding ceremony. But be sure you're not crossing the line of doing somebody's job like the wedding planner.
  • Have fun but don't overdo it. Don't be too hands-on with your date on the dance floor. Treat your focus in balance with other people too. Also, careful with the bottomless glass of wine...you might wanna save it after the party.
Have fun! ;)

The Power Of A Power Wash!

So, 3 weeks ago, we requested for a power wash on our gutters due to some molds and dirt on them. I know there are still a lot of things to be done on this house of mine...repairs, paintings, and some minor things that need to be smooth out..ugh!

The guy who did it was able to remove the molds and dirt, and then this was the effect..LOL! Due to the pressure of the washing, one of the planks just above our garage door came off. We learned later that it wasn't nailed properly. The guy who did the power wash promised to repair it when he gets back.

Then, I thought the guy would come back right away that day to fix it, but he didn't came until after 5 days. Well, better late than never! So, he fixed that thing as he promised. So, all went back to a normal sight. ;)..whew!

Bedroom Entertainment! ;)

So, couple of weeks ago, I and my husband decided to go to the store to look for a Samsung camera charger because I couldn't find the charger at home. I thought I probably left it somewhere in a hotel while we were in one of our trips recently.

We didn't find a Samsung charger, but we found one that is compatible, so I just had to buy it rather than nothing! While we were still looking around the store, hubby just suddenly thought of getting a 32" TV and told me we can have it in our bedroom.

Our old RCA TV has been there for more than 8 years, and somewhat an old model with a small screen. But I think he wanted a LED TV with wider screen, and much clearer picture.
Old TV

At first, we thought the length of the TV would be too long that would obstruct the door leading to my office, but it fits perfectly on the table stand and the length was just perfect! So, here it is! I first got to test it by watching one of my favorite shows at night. Cool!

And oh, by the way, after buying that camera charger a day after, I found the original charger on our bedroom...lol! How silly of me not to see it. It was plugged on the outlet beside the bed which happened to be hidden at the back of the bedside table.

Quick Beauty Touch-Up Fixes Before a Meeting

For women who are business professionals, quick fixes don't need a lot of effort and can even make your personality more likeable.
Here are the ways how: - (they may not be 100% perfect for everyone, but it would surely help).

  • Skin - Use a nonpowdered blotting paper on your nose, forehead and chin to do away with shine. It can help degrease those areas without messing up your make up.
  • To sweep away any make up smudges, use a cotton swab. Start one lightly under your eyes, around the nose, and along the edges of your lips.
  • Squeeze a drop of serum, cream or hand lotion on your hair for frizzes or flyaways, and rub it with your palm.
  • Touch up your lipstick but just go easy on your gloss as it can be distracting if you overdo it.

Translation, Please!

A few years ago, before I got married to my husband, I didn't find any language barrier between us. He is an American and I am a Filipino. I speak and can read English very well. Not until when he started visiting my country, the Philippines and he would hear people around him speaking Tagalog which is my country's national language. He gets uneasy when I am speaking my own language with my family and friends, and most of the time, he would ask me to translate the things we are talking about.

After we got married and finally joined him here in the US, I suggested buying a Rosetta Stone for Tagalog learning. I thought I could easily translate as I talk in my own language, but I was wrong! I discovered I am not a good translator! LOL!

I couldn't imagine if there won't be any translation service all around the world. There are a lot of different languages all around the world and without any translators nor help from translation agencies, it would simply be a world that everybody would not enjoy with no opportunities to live a better life, don't you think?

Considering that nowadays, almost every country is becoming diverse in its culture. This is where a translation company comes into the scene. As diversity becomes more common particularly in the metropolitan areas, we see more opportunities for jobs, businesses, as well as better services in the medical, financial and technological settings.

Family Survival Skills - Always a Must!

If an unexpected disaster were to strike tomorrow, what do you think should you do? There are some key steps that every family should be aware of. So, while time still gives us the chance, let's grab it.

First, a communication plan should be created, like who in your family has the most access to the news and is most decisive, and is most reachable? That person will be considered your family marshal and has the chain of command. You can also choose a family meeting place: say one close to home like a friend on the other side of town and another a further away like your brother's or aunt's, 10 miles away).

Scan some vital documents you own such as birth certificates, passports, marriage license and wills, then store the files on a web-based data storage system including thumb drives, then make paper copies for your go bag.

Creating a go bag is essential to store important stuff you need. Update your bag periodically with seasonally appropriate clothings, prescriptions, etc...treat it as a living thing and not something to be stored in the closet and catch some dirt.

Raising Your Kids To Be Healthier

According to a CDC study, childhood obesity has been tripled in the past 30 years. So, it is just vital for parents to remember that obesity as a child can be carried out through into adulthood.

Here are some ideas that help:

  • Instead of getting some potato chips and cookies, why not choose a better alternative such as low-fat yogurt, fruit, pretzels or string cheese.
  • If you drink juice, let your kids have no more than 4-6 ounces of juice a day.
  • Try incorporating eating at least 5 fruits and a vegetable a day. It is a fun way to think of the colors of the rainbow, and choose fruits and veggies accordingly.
  • Encourage your kids to be more engaged in physical activity. Limit TV and computer/video games to no more than 1-2 hours a day; this way kids will be more encouraged to be more active.

Another Snowy Day!

So today starts another snowy day until tomorrow afternoon (Monday, 3/17). It's only 3 days before the official spring season kicks off, but Mr. Winter seems to be persistent staying for a while. [sigh!]

On the other end, it will be another no work day for the hubby, the only reason why I like snowy days sometimes, lol! In this case, I won't mind Mr. winter staying for a bit til tomorrow! The previous snow days were more than enough to handle, but more time to hang out with my husband. ;)

I hope this would be the last snow we are having before the winter finally ends. It doesn't seem right to be enjoying spring and snows are still a lot on sight!

Get Your Kids A Backyard Playground!

For kids, play is one of the most vital aspect of their childhood. They would surely love when you take them to the public parks or amusement parks as they sometimes need a BIG treat from mom and dad. On the other hand, public parks can sometimes pose danger for them, and amusement parks can be expensive for a tight budget.

So, it is always good to set their exposure moderately for their interpersonal skills with other children when it comes to playing in a public park. It would be worth the money to invest for swing sets in williamsburg va and convert your backyard into a playground for your kids, don't you think? A family bonding with the little ones enjoying their own playground is worth the buy. And you don't have to worry about their safety too! Think about it. Consider it a special treat for your kids, and for your own peace of mind as well ;).

A Movie Date!

I and hubby usually watch movies when we see some good ones in the weekends at our nearby movie theater which is in Westminster. And of course, it would always be English movies.

But today, we thought of watching a Filipino movie at AMC Loews Rio Cinemas in Gaithersburg. This was actually our 2nd time to watch a Filipino movie; - ("Bride For Rent"). I always considered it as worth the time doing it because the hubby can understand it too! Thank God for subtitles! ;)

As usual, the movie was always better than what I expected it to be! There's always something good moral lesson that you can take from the movie which is a good thing.

Although it's a bit quite of a long drive (an hour away from home), it's always worth looking forward to. This means if there will be one coming again worth watching, we will do it again. Just that this is the only movie theater that offers Filipino movies closest to us. We won't mind, an hour drive away.

How To Stack Up Your Foldables Neatly On Your Closet.

There are smart techniques of stacking up a neat, organized foldables in your shelves depending on your garment types.
For lingeries, consider investing on a drawer divider that has 6-inch wide sections. This is to prevent your fancy delicate intimates from tangles coming from bra hooks.

For bulky clothings like sweaters, control your stacks height to 8-10 inches max. Bulkiest pieces can be placed at the bottom of pile to prevent unstable, top-heavy formation. Make separate columns for cardigans, turtlenecks, etc..so you don't need to unfold them all when you need either one of them.

Tuck sweater arms first to prevent creases. Don't fold them down the front. Put extremely high-maintenance knits in a clear, protective sweater bags.

Don't hang knits to avoid stretched-out silhouettes and lumpy shoulders.

My Transparency Sundry Kit

I thought I can probably use it as a purse to put my personal travel stuff in it, then place it inside my wheeled carry-on, so I got one online.
But after a thorough look when I received it, it's really was designed for toiletries...lol. Oh, well!

Although it didn't serve the purpose why I bought it, t'was nice to have it for beach stuff. It's made of clear vinyl but durable plastic and ideal to use when I go through security checks when traveling. It also has a separate mesh compartment under its zippered cover lid, ideal for placing small, loose items.

Although it would have been better if the handle is on top instead of being at the side. But it wouldn't be a big issue for just toiletries, so it's still workable in any way. Can't wait for summer! ;)

Basic Helpful Tricks to Organize Your Closet

An obvious fact is that  if you can't see it, you won't be able to wear it. So if you want all your clothes to get the chance of being used and worn, know the basics of organizing them. :)

One of the important key is to consider an ample contrast between your clothes and the walls. While a white paint is just fine, it's probably preferrable to consider bright-colored wall papers.

Since most closets aren't well-lighted, stick-on LED lights are smart solution to be able for you to see every inch of space.

It's also a smart idea to sort your clothes by garment types, then by color. You might also want to consider classifying them into smaller sections by sleeve and hem lengths.

Those clothes that need stacking such as jeans, sweaters and tees can be placed on an open-air shelves better than inside a dresser.

Touched By An Angel Series Episodes!

Finally, I was able to find the complete season of the once famous TV series "Touched by an Angel". It was actually suggested by my husband that it is a good show when he borrowed the 1st season series from his brother. I was able to watch the very first episode, and I completely love the story! The rest is history!...lol!

I can't stop watching every episode, that I haven't even got bored in every episode because it portrays a lot of moral and spiritual lessons based on a day to day life routines.

So, it was just too difficult to find them in the stores today, so I tried to look online. And yes!...Amazon has it. It was a bit pricey for the complete season series, but I thought it will be all worth it. I even got a discount after I ordered and completely reimbursed. Isn't that great?

I am now on the second season and on my 3rd episode....tons of episodes to go before I could finally finish watching them all :). It could take me a year and a half perhaps since I only get to watch when I and my husband's schedules are free for a day. These are our "movie dates" at home, so to speak.

Two Boxes For April Vacation!

So, I thought of sending my 5th and 6th balikbayan boxes perhaps later this month or early February so it would be in time when I arrive Philippines. I have been putting some variety of stuff through these boxes to send something home, and they really help a lot...the reason why I travel light everytime I go home for a vacation ;).

The first box on the corner (above photo) has been there since summer of last year, lol! It was only around December that it got full and there was an excess, so I need to get another box to put the excess items on.

Now, I need to fill the 2nd box again before my due date of sending ends, so I can dispatch them in time for April. I was able to find some good deals for gift items. It's always a perfect time to buy those right after Christmas as many stores go on sale for as high as 70% off...I really get big savings for those!

Okay, so time to get back to work and get the 2nd box done! Whew!

Tree Trimming!

It was finally in the late fall that we were able to let somebody trim the evergreen tree beside our house. It was cut 6 inches from the ground. It used to be bushy all the from the ground going up where the branches and thick leaves cover our entire backyard entrance. Our original plan was to cut the entire tree, but the tree guy suggested trimming. The tree would still be a nice shield from any gusty winds or too much sun, so we took his suggestion :).

I love the look...my husband too was excited enough that the backyard entrance is now clear and passable. It was a nice sight to look at. I am encouraged to put some flower garden under the surroundings maybe late spring.
