My husband and I are renovating our dream home right now. We have waited years to do this, and we can’t wait to see the results. We could never see ourselves living in a gated community where all of the houses looked exactly the same. We decided that we would have to buy in an old, historical neighborhood and just change the house to meet our needs. Use "non-chlorine bleach" for lifting stains from clothing, or try soaking fabrics in water mixed with borax, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, baking soda or white vinegar.

For Linoleum Floor Cleaner:
Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar in a bucket of warm water. The smell will disappear when the floor dries.

Treating Stains on Your Sofas, Loveseats & Chairs

Before putting any liquid or any other chemical on any stains on your furniture, be sure to know if your furniture are treated with stain-resistant chemicals or not. Don't just dump water on the stain as you will probably end up with a water stain!
Just o be sure, test it first from a hidden corner then wait and see how it dries.

Before a stain hits, and your furniture hasn't yet been treated and you feel comfortable on chemicals, try Scotchgard which can treat fabric slightly firmer. Those with natural fibers such as cotton, are easier to treat than silk or synthetics.

If there is a fresh stain, treat it immediately. Take note: If your furniture is marked with W, you can never go wrong by pouring club soda on the stain to lift it from the material.
Otherwise, you can also opt for dry cleaning.

Another option would be to reupholster a good quality piece which is by the way cheaper, rather than buying brand new. Choose a tough, tightly woven fabrics that you can apply a stain-resistant product into it, like tapestry or synthetic/natural blends.

Protecting Your Walls Against Stains

If you have a brand new wall that is still free from stains, be sure to choose darker colors that will show fewer smudges and marks.
If you have a light-colored eggshell or satin paint, you might want to repaint it with primer first. The primer will help prevent greasy fingerprints through the drywall which can create a permanent stain. So, this acts as a barrier. Then, repaint with latex paint.

If the stain sinks into the drywall such as with the case of oil splatters behind the stove, it will be permanent, so treat it quickly as soon as it splatters on the wall.

For stains on most wall paints, these paints are generally designed to withstand soap and water, where washing shouldn't leave a discoloration. But if you want to be sure, test it first in a hidden corner.
If it doesn't work, try stain remover. You can try baking soda with a damp sponge, then mix with 1 part of ammonia with 2 parts of warm water and apply.

If you'll want to end up covering the stain by repainting, you'll likely to have to repaint the entire wall unless your recently painted last month or two. Be sure you prime directly over the stain.
If it's an oil-based stain use an oil-based primer which will prevent the stain from appearing through the new coat of paint.

I have a big giant TV in my living room and although I have tons of Direct TV ChannelsI spend most of my time watching MTV. There’s one show I just can’t get enough of and it’s pretty embarrassing to say, actually, but it’s Jersey Shore. Man, there’s something about those Guidos that just makes me giggle and the way they interact with each other is just out of this world. You should be able to comfortably fasten it on the second or third hook - if only the last hook will do, it's too small.

Protecting Your Carpet From Stains!

Carpets are designed to last 10-20 years but it is ideal to replace it after 5-7 years if there is too much staining. Most carpets (except for all-natural fiber carpets like wool) are coated with stain-resistant chemicals but no carpet is considered stain proof.

Don't ever use a carpet cleaner or stain figher like vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia or nail polish remover without testing it first on the hidden corner to make sure it doesn't fade the color.

Before the stain hits, avoid white rugs. It involves a ton of work maintaining it. But if you have one, try getting inexpensive throw rugs to place on top of highly trafficked areas. Avoid black rugs as well. Opt for light shades such as beige. That way, if you need to use a spot remover, you run less of a risk of creating a pale spot on the rug than you would with a dark carpet.

Don't overclean. You can steam every few years as needed, and vacuum regularly, at least twice a month. Pull out tarps or throw rugs when kids and dirty shoes are around, otherwise, ban shoes! Go with bare feet or slippers only.

Treat right away if there are new, fresh stain by blotting it immediately with water or club soda. Scrape up any solid particles.
If it's ink, it is nearly impossible to get out of carpets, like nail polish and many cosmetics. You might want to rearrange your furniture.

Troubleshooting Your Dishwasher

What to do when you open its door and you see water at the bottom:
It might have a clogged drain. Empty the dishwasher and look for the filter. This is usually a plastic mesh container below the spray arm (it differs depending on every washer). Empty that. Common causes are chicken bones, cellophane or broken glasses - which is invisible in water, so feel around carefully.

Why are the dishes still dirty after washing:
The water sprayer maybe clogged. Turn of the power and empty dishwasher, take out the racks and detach the spray arm (removable for cleaning, your manual should have the steps on it). Then check the little holes on the spray arm to check if they are clogged, and clean them with toothpick.
If it's not clogged, another culprit maybe that the water maynot be heating up enough to melt grease. Check your manual.

What to do with cloudy glasses:
Try soaking them with white vinegar for 5 minutes. If they clear up, it means you have hard water; use more detergent in your machine. If cloudiness still remains, it is likely etching, permanent microscopic cuts caused by using too much detergent or using too hot a cycle, Try less detergent next time and be sure not to use a "high temperature" or "heavy wash" cycle for glass.

Your dishwasher smells like it's on fire:
You likely have an older model that has a visible heating element along the bottom. A dish probably fell and is touching the element. Remove it.

What to do if with stubborn grease:
The water temperature inside your dishwasher maybe below the temperature necessary to melt greasee. Check your manual. If your dishwasher doesn't have its own heating element, increasing the setting on your home's hot water heater to 130-140F. Set it no higher than 120F if small childern are in the house.

You probably have hard water. Use a rinse aid.

First check to be sure there's no utensil or other item wedged in the side, keeping the door from shutting properly. If not, someone may have tripped over the door when it was open and knocked it off kilter. If you see unevenness, tighten or loosen the hinge screws with a screwdriver.
Otherwise, the problem is the gasket-the rubbery stuff around the door that creates the seal. It's probably gaping and need to be replaced. You can do the repair yourself; just consult the manual.

The answer is yes!...and it has to do with pheromones, odorless chemicals that women produce and release. A theory says that our bodies detect and respond to the pheromones of women around us, thus, this creates a synchronicity of menstrual cycles. It's primitively strange, but true!

-that you can't get pregnant during your period?
It's unlikely but not totally impossible. In rare instances, sperm can wait for an egg for up to a week. If you have a very short or long cycle, ovulation can happen soon after or even during the bleeding phase, which can give sperms the chance to get lucky.

Not true! If you're having your period regularly and you don't want to, it's okay to skip ti by taking the pill continously (no 7-day gaps). The pill contains progesterone-like hormones which prevents the growth of the uterine lining, so there's no build up and no lining to be shed, the reason why you don't get a period.
The danger is if the lining of your uterus builds up and doesn't shed, since this can make you at risk for a build up of precancerous cells. So, if you're not getting periods and you're not on the pill, menstruation should be induced at least every 3 months.
