Beating The Heat!

Today is mom's birthday. We decided to celebrate it at the water park 15 minutes away from home. But the celebrant preferred to eat, and never swam, lol! We enjoyed the water as there was no crowd yet. The coolness and serenity of the pool calmed me and cooled me down due to the heat!
We enjoyed a picnic beside the pool as well...it wasn't easy having a swim without a food...didn't know swimming can drain your energy and makes you hungry from time to time..ugh!

The DO's & DONT's For Grilling

You can be a pro when it comes to BBQing without going to a formal school! :) It's just a matter of getting aware of the do's and dont's that you should follow when you're on the grill.

The DO's:

As you start placing your meat on the grill at a diagonal angle on the grill grates, time your turns. Wait for 2 minutes before you turn the meat in a quarter-turn clockwise manner. Wait another 2 minutes then flip and repeat on the other side.

During the last 10% of your cooking time, apply on liquid glazes on your meat. If you put it too early, they will turn your food into a charred mess!

Have enough reserve of ready-to-go briquettes as a ready replenishment for your charcoal fire to enable you to keep grilling at a desired temperature longer.

Segregate your skewers like for instance when you make kebabs, place one type of food on each skewer, such as onions on one, meat on another and so on..this is to cook the food in perfection. This will also make the meat achieve a more roasty flavor.

When your fish breaks into clean flakes, it means it's done.

Give the meat time, at least 3 minutes for smaller ones, and 10-15 minutes for bigger cuts after removing them from the grill to allow the juice to redistribute evenly. If you slice it right away, all of its flavors will run unto the cutting board.

The DONT's:

Don't forget to marinate your food. It's good to marinate them in a mixture that contains yogurt, lemon juice or vinegar/wine that helps tenderize the meat and fat like vegetable or olive oil which can help them moist during the grilling.
Place fish, shelllfish and small pieces of chicken meat in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes; chicken breasts-1-2 hours; thick steak-4 hours; and overnight for big cuts like pork shoulder, prime rib, brisket, etc...

Avoid overcrowding. Give spaces for food evenly on the grill - at least 2-3 fingers width in between.

Avoid flattening the food using a spatula which can cause the tasty juices to come out.

Don't overdo the ribs to the extent of almost falling off the bone. They are best if there's a bit to chew left to them. They are ready when they can be torn apart with your fingers.

Avoid burning the skewers by resting the exposed ends on a piece of foil folded 3 times and placed on the grill.

A Tub of Distinction!

Have you ever thought or imagined having a bath tub at home that you consider distinctive? Many still prefer having one at home that has exciting design making it more unique and attractive.

I saw many designs of them in various hotels I and my husband would go to when we are on travel. Each hotel reflects their own uniqueness by their choice of bath tubs I guess, because I see different designs and sizes from the classical ones to modern ones.

I still find claw footed tub cute! They have various styles that reflects their classical designs from the old era to more modern styles, and they can still be durable with their high quality designs. I think I would recommend them if friends would be looking for one.

Give Your Skin A TLC It Deserves!

Skin can be very reactive as the temperature and season changes. Our skin needs a little extra care especially during the cooler months. As we approach the cold season, less humidity in the air becomes more common and thus our skin would feel drier.

If you want to know if your skin really needs a moisturizer, wait 30 minutes after washing your face. And if it doesn't feel tight, skip the moisturizer. Watch out for flakes during the cooler season. Eczema or seborrheic dermatitis are often misdiagnosed at cosmetic counters, then they give you a dry skin product which can cause a more harmful reaction. Instead, call your dermatologist.

For skin caused by bug bites, they can leave your skin with annoying hyperpigmentation marks that would take longer before they fade. Here are some tips to care for skin caused by bug bites:

Put an antibiotic ointment and keep it covered with bandage for at least 2 weeks. Apply some ice to decrease inflammation.
Apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream to the affected area to avoid scratching.

Chairs For Worship

It always help to have a comfortable worship seating while in church, don't you think? A sanctuary should be a good place to relax while meditating and praying as well as convenient to be at while focusing on our worship activities and fellowship with others.

A good church should also be a place for durability and comfort when it comes to chairs. Just imagine a case scenario where there are no chairs around! And if you think about chairs, don't settle for ones that don't last long. Better yet get ones that are worth the money.

Dressing Yourself Party Perfect!

Going somewhere for a party?  Every woman I bet would want to become looking at their best in every party. Some helpful guides might help you if you want to know some ideas:

First, try dresses that have feminine touches such as those with ruffles, laces or in bright colors. It can put you up into your party mood instantly.

It's always a good idea to trry your look the day before the party. That way, you're never without the right ring or bag or underwear or bra. Also, add a splash of perfume before you leave.

Once you walk out from your door at home, don't ask every friend in the room whether your outfit is right. So make sure you're comfortable in it before you leave the house.

Don't carry your work bag at the party. You can keep an evening clutch bag in your desk so you have something to switch with for a night out. You can always provide in it some mints or lip gloss ;).

Crowd Control Solutions

Crowd control products are really one of the best way to tame the crowd particularly for business establishments like banks, theaters, museums, etc...I'm sure many of you are so familiar with these products as they are very common in most public places. Operating a smooth business is a peace of mind as well, particularly if your company deals directly with people.

Have you noticed those retractable belt stanchions in the mall? Or probably in public areas for concerts or any venues where crowd is involved? If you are thinking of getting some, it's always a good idea to choose those that are of high quality. You can actually save more if you buy from a wholesaler.

Whether To Bring Your Child To The ER (Or Not)...

Most moms will for sure hate to be taking their little ones to the ER, particularly if it's that crowded and only to end up nothing is really serious!
Here are the following helpful tips that might help moms out there save a trip to the ER when their kids get into trouble:

If your child swallowed something that might be poisonous:

Go to the ER if: He swallowed a large amount (sch as bottle of vitamins or container of detergent!

Otherwise: - Call the poison control at 800-222-1222 and save the number. They will ask you what and how much he ingested, his weight, age, height, etc...and then tell you whether you should go to the ER or just monitor him for any side effects.

If your child cuts herself:

Go to the ER if: - She's losing a lot of blood and it's spurting out or gushing heavily and doesn't show any signs of slowing, or she's starting to lose consciousness.

Otherwise: Apply pressure for 10 minutes. If the blood still doesn't stop and the wound looks deep, cal your doctor. She'll tell you whether to go straight to her office, to the plastic surgeon or go to the ER.

If your child has a fever:

Go to the ER if: - He has a fever of 105F or higher and is extremely agitated, listless, cranky or inconsolable. For babies who are 2 months old, you should take her to the ER if she has fever of 100.4F or higher.

Otherwise: Give him/her Tylenol or Motrin (ask doc how much) and apply a cool compress. If fever hasn't gone down after 30 minutes, call the doctor and or go to the ER.

If your child bumped her head so hard/got hit in the head:

Go to the ER if: - She fainted, is vomiting, has a bad headache, has arm/leg weakness, isn't acting like herself or  didn't cry at all (which means she lost consciousness briefly.

Otherwise: Give her infant Tylenol or Motrin, apply an ice pack and call the pediatrician. If you notice any symptoms of vision problems, dizziness, etc..in the next 24 hours, call the doctor back.

If your child has hurt his arm or leg and it may be broken:

Go to the ER if: - a bone is protruding through the skin or the pain is excruciating.

Otherwise: Give him children's Motrin or Tylenol and apply ice on affected area and call the doctor for a possible referral. If you're not sure if it's broken, wait 24-48 hours to see if it improves.

If your child got burned:

Go to the ER if: - a large portion of skin is burned or if large burns are on her hands, face or groin area.

Otherwise: Run small burns under cold water, apply ice and give her Tylenol or Motrin, then cover area with antibiotic ointment and a bandage. If it starts to blister badly, call your doctor.

Steps To A Successful Cash Flow Management

Creating a sound business plan including your purpose, goals, structure, market analysis and a cash flow analysis should be a smart move. ;) Then, update it every 90 days.

Create a cash flow calendar and identify what you need to earn every 30 days. It should include tracking how much income (coming in) and how much expenses (going out) you have. It helps to install accounting software on your pc such as Quickbooks Pro.

Most banks are hesitant to lend money for start-ups and some would prefer to lend entrepreneurs who have at least more than 2-3 years of experience who can show growth through financial statements and business tax returns. So, be your own banker and try to put together at least 12 months of savings to cover operational expenses.

Never borrow more credit than what you can afford to repay. Loans and credit cards will become problematic if you don't have any realistic cash flow accounting system that leaves you with enough money to cover your business expenses.

Before deciding to buy a business purchase, ask yourself how important it is, and be a "spare room tycoon". Work from your home office instead of renting a fancy office space.

A Wedding Guest Book Worth Cherishing

I still remember when I had my altar walk in church 8 years ago! It was full of intense emotions, but everybody was happy ;). I couldn't imagine how happy I was when I and the one I love were finally became husband and wife.

There are a lot of mementos during our wedding celebration. Thank goodness for photos, videos and our wedding guest book!
After 8 years, our guest book is still as new as the first time we handed it to our guests for them to sign.

I can still see my most favorite wedding photo placed on the cover page, and to the next pages were signatures and wishes friends and families wrote for us. I feel nostalgic just by glancing at it once again.

Battling Termites At Home

If there are things that need serious consideration at home, one would be to consider steps in making your home termite-free.

To look for warning signs, try examining your foundation and look for a pencil-size mud tubes, where termites crawl through to get inside woods into your home. Also check on walls and look for cracked or bubbling paint, bulges or spots that sound hollow when tapped.

If you think you saw warning signs, call a pest control expert to check and identify the signs. Most commonly, the best treatments are EPA-approved termiticide.

Prevent them from coming back by avoiding moisture build up and keeping your basement well ventilated, fixing leaks and maintaining clear gutters.

Be Safe At Home!

Don't allow your home to be an easy target of burglars. And you can stop thieves from breaking without actually spending thousands of dollars to secure it completely. You can get some tricks and tips at the same time which can be helpful for you and your home.

Let them know you have an alarm. Advertise them on your yard or a decal in a window - or do it both! Thieves won't dare going in a house that has an alarm...so, you get the idea? :)

Get a threathening sign that says "Beware of Dog" to do the trick. Burglars don't wanna mess with a dog as well.

Thieves mostly don't use force in getting inside the home. They walk in through unlock doors and windows...so, better be sure, always lock up!

Try beefing up your doors to ensure it won't budge without your key. Install a deadbolt that at least an inch long and add a solid-brass strike plate secured with 3-inch screws that go all the way into the studs.

Fortify your windows and protect older glass with laminate film which makes it harder to break. You can also get a wood dowel inserted in the slider track which allows airflow during summer while preventing the window from opening enough for a person to fit through.

Never let your garage doors remain unlocked. It can become a hidden enclave for thieves to take their time and use your tools to get into your house.

Make your home looks like someone is inside if you are out. Try putting your lights on a timer so that they switch on while you're out.

Trim bushes that are infront of your house and prune them back from the door and below window level. Trim climbable branches from mature trees close to your house as well.

Motion detector lights can also help adding the feeling of being watched when they illuminate a porch or your yard. It can stop a thief from crossing that line from the street to your home.

"Treasure Box?"

Photobucket

Actually, it's not a treasure box but a photo box that was a gift to us by our friend Barbara on our wedding. I haven't seen it for 2 years because it was hidden inside my closet. While I was rearranging my wardrobe, I saw it hidden underneath my clothes and so I took it out and placed it on our bedroom table. I didn't know I put some things in it and I was even surprise to see these things :))

Photobucket

Some bundles of pesos that I brought way back from the Philippines the year 2006. I counted it and reached to 11,000 PHP bucks!! See how heaven pours its blessings. I am aware this is not spendable in America, but I'm gonna be strolling at Mall of Asia, either later this year...LOL! Definitely, I'll be going back home again. Hhmmm, it's always good savoring Pinoy foods huh? :)..at least once a year is more than enough. I can't complain, hahaha...

Ciao!

In The World Of Steels

We are obviously living in the world of steels. Of course, it's because steels are now the major components of great buildings and bridges. Without them, we can imagine ourselves living back to the ancient world of the barbarians! lol! Each piece of steel that is attached to one tall building carries a vital function! Forget about them, and buildings will be collapsing everywhere.

For instance, a steel clamp in your classroom or in your office carries a vital function. Laboratories, chemistry rooms, and other buildings you can ever imagine almost need this piece of steel.
It's no doubt, we should appreciate their importance when it comes to the industrial world. No other construction materials would work without them.

Allergy-Proof Your Space!

Spring can be bad for many particularly if they are allergy sufferers. Almost 60 million Americans suffer from allergies during this season which is considered to be one of the toughest times of the year.
Exposure to allergens outdoors can be disappointing and annoying, but you can minimize having it (and even bringing them inside your home) by knowing some helpful tips.

If you love gardening, save your yard work later during the day, and avoid the times between 5AM-10AM, as pollen levels are at their peak during those times. Always keep your grass cut short, and consider wearing air-filtering mask, gloves and goggles while doing your outdoor works. Avoid planting high-pollen producing plants such as juniper, amaranthus and pionies, especially near your windows or doors.

Don't dry fresh laundries outside. Shake your clothes after being worn outside and take a shower as soon as possible after spending outdoors. Keep a brush and wet wipes handy for your pets as well to wipe off their paws and fur after playing outdoors.
Place mats on all of your doors to serve as catchall for allergens and landing pad for footwear which should be taken off as you come indoors.

Keep the right ventilation by keeping humidity levels below 50%, which can thwart the spread of mold and mildew.

Drain any areas of stagnant water in your yard and keep your soil moist, but not damp, to minimize airborne mold. Never open your windows after a heavy rain.

The Guide To Choosing Your Perfect Shapewear!

Many women who have trouble losing weight are getting one option to make them look thinner...buying a shapewear! ;) This can also help them make their clothes fit and hang better.

So, if you are on to choosing one, better know the tricks :)

First, try to pick ones that are slippery with shiny finish rather than choosing a matte one. This will make your clothes glide over it.

Don't be tempted to get a too tight undergarment because if it squeezes your flesh in one area, it would pop out in another...now, that's horrible looking! So, if you're between sizes, go up rather than down. Too small sizes make your shapewear ride up or bunch.

Know your purpose on why you're getting one. If you want to flatten your belly, choose a seamless underpants or high-waisted thong. Those camisoles with built-in bras will help take care your back bulges or a muffin top. This is also great choice if you are concern about a visible waistband.
If the problem is your thighs or your butt, get the shorts and make sure they don't have a big ridge of elastic at the thigh area.

A Mirror Can Be Inspiring!

There are a lot of things that might get into your mind upon reading the title of my post today...right? Perhaps, some of you would say it's true, but to some they find it disgusting.

But come to think about it...mirrors are everywhere and are mostly common in every household. For me, a mirror is one essential aspect inside the home. I have it in the bedroom, study area, kitchen, and even in the bathroom. Why? Because it inspires me when I see myself looking good and smiling, lol! Call me crazy, but it's true. I can see myself in it crying too, but it's still part of being inspired, you know!

I have a house in the Philippines and currently I am still trying to remodel my bathroom. And honestly, so to speak, the only thing lacking in there is a bath mirror. There should be no problem getting one, that I know ;). But I still need to figure out something on the wall to hang the mirror since I can't get a standing mirror due to space constraints. The old mirror I got broke because the hanging piece were not able to support it.
It would be the next project I would be doing this November. :)

I Need A Cabinet Organizer!

My big trip is coming this November, and there are already some lists that I made for goals I have to do. Most of them are plans to have more cabinet organizers since those are the ones I don't have yet inside my home. It's really much of a challenge if you have another house to think about particularly out of the country! It makes your mind pre occupied...so many things to do, yet little time.

Anyway, I am thinking of getting dvd cabinets, since I have been sending more dvd movies and they keep piling up in some corners of the house because they don't have any spot for organizing. It's for sure a good thing to have, but I might as well get one that can be good as a space saver since space inside is limited as well. I hardly have enough furniture because of the petite space inside the house.

Oh well, it's kinda tough choosing one, but fun! :)

If you and your kids always bring a lunch box meal at work and in school, it might help to make the best choice on whose ones should have the right one, right?

Avoiding The Monstrous Plastic Piles at Home

Is your kitchen looking like more like a plastic warehouse full of piling plastic containers everywhere? Ahhh....I've been there! It came to a point where every cabinet I open is full of plastic containers that I never use. When a time came that I have to put some more important stuff in there, I couldn't find any place at all! Well, it pays to have a good reorganization (and disposing those that I don't need).

Those that I no longer used were put in a big recycling bin, for a good cause ;). Also, you might already want to toss those that are scratched, damaged or warped plastic which can leach chemicals to your food.

Food containers are for deep drawers to avoid chaos in the drawer. If you don't have drawer space, use shallow shelves.

Stack them by shape, one area for horizontal shapes with lids vertical beside them.

Store like materials together. All sandwich containers in one drawer (you can include lunchboxes with them provided space is enough), while Pyrex dishes can be stored with other casserole dishes. This is the best defense method against out-of-control container drawer.

Don't Brush!

At least NOT if you have had soda, wine, coffee, tomatoes or any citrus fruits. Did you know that a study say that actually brushing your teeth after an intake of acidic foods can push the acid into your tooth enamel even further? This can then a result that leads to sensitivity and unsightly erosion and can cause more cavities at worst!
What you do instead is to have a swish of water, then wait at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before brushing your teeth.

One helpful tip, isn't it?

Slane Collections

I won't wonder why women are always attracted to jewels...whether those one that sparkles or just fashion jewelries with colorful designs. The truth is jewelries are really captivating and can enhance ones personality when wearing them, right? I do love jewelries. And each person has his/her own style and choices of wearing them.

If you are one jewelry enthusiast, perhaps it would be nice checking a slane jewelry online. You can either choose to be a registered member and see their various collections! The designs are so cool and elegant!

Keeping Your Nail Habits Healthy

Are your nails getting yellowish? That's annoying! You can brighten them up by wiping the beds with a hydrogen peroxide soaked in cotton pad.

If your cuticles seem dry, try massaging it with a Vitamin E capsule. ;)

If you think of going to the salon, bring your own polish. It can help you avoid germs and you can fix nicks at home.

To remove dead skins, make a sugar scrub. Just mix organic sugar with honey and rub over hands, then rinse.

Training Your Teens to be Financially Responsible

The younger you train your kids to be responsible in so many ways would help you a lot and can give you a trouble-free situation later. I definitely agree to the fact that it would all be worth it in the end. Both you and your kids will reap the good outcome in the end.

For instance, training your teens to be financially responsible with their accounts is a thing that needs a serious focus. You don't need to be keeping them away of spending because whether we like it or not, as parents, they still need some spending too! The only thing we need to consider is to make their spending more likely controllable, right?

Maybe considering to get prepaid debit cards for minors would help, what do you think? It's one of the best way to train them being responsible in handling their financial accounts. Through this, I believe, someday they can be trustworthy enough to handle larger amount of money, and will train them to ultimately save for their own ;).

Beating Cold Virus & Stopping Its Tracks!

An average adult can get 3 colds per year according to a research, and it lasts an average of 9 days. But stopping a cold before it hits you again would be the best way, don't you think?

As soon as you feel the symptoms, start drinking a lot of fluids. it helps cut down sore throat and stuffy nose.
You can also gargle with salt water to help relieve scratchy throat. (Add half tsp. of salt to a warm glass of water. This helps flushes out bacteria and viruses.
Keep your nose clean right after cold symptoms appear. Take hot shower as well, in which the warm moisture helps clear nasal passages.

Within the first 2 hours afte you have the symptoms, take a pain reliever such as acetaminophen to fight off achiness. You can as well take OTC allergy meds that would help relieve runny nose and watery eyes, or allergy meds such as Claritin D to help clear your sinuses.

More than 6 hours after the symptoms, take a bed rest as much as possible. If you can't skip work, just be sure to keep limited distances with your co workers and wash your hands regularly or use an alcohol-based disinfectant gel.
Continue taking more fluids such as water, juice or tea and get chicken soup for lunch.

At the end of your day, eat dinner rich in protein-packed foods such as fish, beans and lean meat with a wholegrain plus a lot of antioxidant-rich veggies. Take hot shower before bed if you still feeling stuffy.

On your next day, you should feel better. If you feel worst like you develop vomiting and fever or develop an increasing headache, call your doctor because it might be something other than cold. You may need an antiviral injection or other treatments if due to flu or infection.
Otherwise, keep up doing the routines for the next few days just to be sure you've kicked out that cold for good. :)

How To Wash A Wool Sweater Properly

Before washing one, here's what you need to keep in mind. It's better to check the label for the garment's fabric content rather than the care instructions. Sometimes, even if the label says "dry clean", you can still handwash it as long as the primary fiber is wool or cashmere.

Here's how to wash your wool sweater:

Fill a basin with cool water and add 1 tbsp. of mild detergent, bleach-free. Swish water til it creates suds then place your wool sweater into the water until it completely is wet. Let sit for 10 minutes while detergent breaks down soil. Don't scrub or stretch the sweater as it can damage the shape and fibers.

Take the sweater with your hands out from the water and gently press a few times (don't wring it), to remove excess water. Empty the soaped water and refill it with with cool water. Put the sweater into the water and rinse by swirling the sweater in the water. Repeat this process until no more detergent remains in the water.

Take the rinsed sweater and gently press to remove water, then lay it on a white or colorfast towel that has been spread on a flat surface. Put another towel on top of the sweater so that it is sandwiched between the 2 towels.
Tightly roll the towels starting from the top downward together so they'll absorb most of the moisture in the sweater.

Unroll and take the sweater, then lay it on the 3rd towel spread on a flat surface and away from sunlight and heat (to keep the wool from being brittle). Gently reshape the sweater, extending the arms and buttoning, if necessary. Lety it dry. You can touch up wrinkles by turning it inside out and iron on low heat with steam. Be sure you have to first test it on a small area to avoid burning.

Where Do You Buy Your Nursing Shoes?

Simple Ways To Stay Bedbug-Free!

Do you travel often? I do! So it pays a good read about how to be bedbug-free and how I can avoid bringing bedbugs to my home after each trip. I stay in hotels most of the time, so I take it seriously!

First, after each trip, wash everything not only soiled clothes upon arriving home. If you can, take off your clothes in your garage and vacuum out your suitcase before going inside. If you're a frequent flyer, it might be worth considering to invest in the PackTite...it's a portable hollow heater that surrounds an empty suitcase and kills bugs and their eggs.

If you happened to be in an infested place and you carry jackets/coats with you, they are the easiest place for bedbugs to grab hold and go home with you. Never leave it on the couch or bed. Try storing your coats in a large plastic storage bin. Bedbugs can't crawl in or out of smooth surfaces.

Those items that you can't dry such as purses, books or other items can be freezed to kill bedbugs. You can wrap them in plastic and pop it in the freezer for a few hours.

If you live in an infested area such as in an apartment, try covering your mattress and box spring with encasements. They are a bit pricey but worth the peace of your mind :).

Tricks To Sharpen Your Shovel

With less effort, try cut through sod and roots by keeping on digging tools like your spade shovel sharp.
You can first clamp the shovel to a workbench making the concave side of the blade faces up. Use heavy gloves and holding a mill bastard file, push it upward along the edge of the blade. Lift and repeat.

Then follow the original bevel; if it has worn off, tilt the file at a 45-degree angle from the shovel's face. After the blade has been sharpened, flip the shovel over and make a few passes with the file to remove the resulting burr on the underside.

Other Ways To Clean Your Household Dirt

Although the most common pantry items you can use in cleaning against household dirt are vinegar and baking soda, there are also other items worth checking as well that you may already have around the house.

You can use baby wipes to eliminate dust and dirt from your antique furnitures without marring fine finishes by rubbing with gentle, fragrance-free wipes.

For a white enameled cast iron tub with a coat of oven cleaner, you can dissolve drain stains. Let sit for an hour or two, then scrub it with steel wool.

Ketchup can be used to polish away rusty or dull spots in a copper sink by wiping on it. Ketchup acts as a mild acid, and sponging clean.

To remove everything from paint splotches to ink stains from laminated floors, use nail-polish remover by adding a few drops of an acetone formula to a rag and spot cleaning.

How To Choose That Perfect Bra

It can be tough at times when you bought a new one and you end up finding yourself uncomfortable because the fitting of your bra isn't just right.
The secret would be to know your breast shape: The following tips would do the trick.

If you have a shallow breast shape where in the tissue slopes down to meet the nipple, and the bottom of the breast is fuller, your best bra would be a balconette or demi bra, since they are built to cradle the undersides of your breasts.

If you have a medium breast shape where the breast tissue comes straight down to meet your nipple, your best bra would be to choose a plunge with underwire. It would show off what you've got.

If you have a full breast shape where the breast tissue is round up at the top as well as at the bottom, try choosing a contour cup that will mold to the shape of your breasts for extra support.

Is Your PC Safe?

In the past, I had terrible experiences with virus attacks on my PC's (I have 4 laptops). It was that time when I just wasn't so aware of how my PC's are highly vulnerable of virus attacks. I had the experience of having one of them shut down due to virus and just went dead, then spent hundreds of dollars to get it repaired and ending up buying a new one! That was crap!

Now, I am aware of it and all of my laptops are well protected. Been there, so I am highly recommending all who are mostly online to have at least a virus scanner that can offer you absolute protection. You'll never regret having one! It is just like getting a security protection for your identity as well.

Love Letter That Works! ;)

In today's modern age of texts and tweets, love letters seem to be considered as a lost form of art, but nah!...because there are still more than words to say which can't be said in 140 characters or less.

A love letter can make your partner more adored. It's one way how you can be more specific and personal and the less likely that you are to end up with a page of cliches. You are free to include few sensual tidbits about her physical descriptions but avoid anything too hard-core.

Use a good pen and nice kind of paper, and start making it through your own handwriting which is more personal. You can write a first draft on scrap for any spellings and cross outs checks.

A very good quality of a love letter doesn't need to fill pages. Even a line or two of hearfelt notes on a post card can still be wonderful!

You can't go wrong writing and sending a love letter on Valentine's Day, but the romantic power of sending one anytime is truly priceless!

Helpful Tips To Choose An Ideal Gift

There might be some point in time that you get stuck by just looking for that right gift for your special someone. The following tips might help you find the right one.

Think about an item that is small. For instance, if you are looking for a gift for a woman, it might be tough to buy clothes since fit would be such an issue. Since most women like jewelry, consider buying one. Choose those ones that work with a huge range of styles.

Another option is to consider checking in at a good beauty store that has artfully packaged gift items. They would surely look so feminine and luxurious. ;)

If you think the one you are sending a gift has everything, why not try an experience gift? For instance, try giving her a treat riding on a hot-air balloon or any adventure activity that perfectly fits her lifestyle.

Finding The Best Filter For Your Home

You can save money by regularly replacing your filter to keep your system working efficiently. To find the best one, check the following guide basing on my reads ;). Pay special attention to the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV). The higher the number, the better.

Type: Panel
Material: made of fiberglass or polyester in a cardboard frame
MERV rating: 3
Cost: $1-3.
Durability: should be replaced every 30 days
Although they are inexpensive, the flimsy filters do little more than protect your furnace from dust.

Type: Washable
Material: made of polyester in an aluminum or ridged poly-ethylene frame.
MERV rating: 5-7
Cost: $30-110
Durability: If cleaned every month, will last up to 5 years.
Convenient and less wasteful than buying new, but generally not as good as pleated options.

Type: Pleated
Material: made of folded cotton polyester in a cardboard frame.
MERV rating: 5-8
Cost: $3-7
Durability: should be replaced every 3 months
A larger surface area lets it grab more particles, making it a good mix of performance and value.

Type: Electrostatic
Material: Electrostatically charged polypropylene
MERV rating: 7-12
Cost: $5-25
Durability: should be replaced at least every 3 months
Your best bet. The charged fiber capture everything from mold to smoke - especially good for allergy sufferers.

Lowering Your Risk For Skin & Breast Cancer

One important thing to do is prevention by having a good nutrition, exercise and living a healthy lifestyle. Although this doesn't mean you are exempted while doing a healthy lifestyle, the longer you will practice it, the harder it is to start.

It is also important to know your baseline. Check yourself to know what is normal after your doctor tells you everything is fine so you can be able to detect changes later.

Always protect you eyelids and mouth, which are usually skin cancer hot spots on your body because they often go uncovered. When under the sun, use lip balm with SPF 30 and wear wrap around shades for your eyes.

How To Avoid Terrible Belly Bloating

Wonder how you could stop the swell? Here are some tips:

Avoid chewing gums, bubbly beverages and using straws. They bring air to your bowel causing your belly to puff up.

Minimize your fiber intake since we can have trouble digesting excessive fiber intake. The extra builds up in the colon, ferments and create gas. You can gradually introduce fibrous foods in your diet like bran and lentils to find your tipping point.

Have a yogurt which has microorganisms that aid the growth of good bacteria in your gut and can fight out unfriendly bugs that cause digestive distress.

Your body can absorb only limited amounts of fructose, a sugar in most fruits, so skip high fructose corn syrup. Just like fiber, excessive fructose ferments in your colon causing gas.

Get moving such as jumping, walking or running as it gets gas moving through the digestive tract.

Ease Your Stress!

Chronic stress can make you at risk for many illnesses like hypertension and more. But there are certain tricks you can do to take the edge off...

Take a long, easy breath to signal your body that it's time to unwind. Avoid reacting to mental pressures which can increase stress making it harder for you to come up with a plan.
It also helps if you keep a journal of your tasks for one work week. Focusing on your to-do's will help you devise solutions.

It helps to delegate equal chores to your partner rather than doing it all alone yourself. Negotiate a division of labor that includes "me" "him" and a few "we" chores. Doing tasks together builds your bond, which is a great stress reducer.

Call your creditors when your bills pile up and explain your situation rather than getting worried and being fearsome that they will track you down or cancel your credit cards. You may also discover options for paying your debts off on a slower schedule.

A "mom's day out" can help remove yourself from the chaos. Talk to your kids in a low, calm voice so you feel in control. Yelling can only fan the flames of riled-up kids. Kids can often act out that can cause you stress because they are either hungry, tired, or bored. So, give them a healthy snack, nap or fun board game which can help keep the crew calm.

Smarter Ways To Deal With Headaches

Almost 80% of people get migraines due to stress. ( I get it too!). Stress causes you to clench your jaw or neck muscles that ca cause neck pain that causes tension headaches.
If your headache is often caused by a stress, a meditation, deep breathing, massage or yoga can help.

For women, migraines can also caused by hormonal fluctuations usually during or before their period, pregnancy, during perimenopause or menopause.
Some OTC (over the counter) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can help. Take at least 2 days before you expect your period when the headache is likely to happen. If you're pregnant, always ask your doctor what's best for a pain-relief management.

Weather changes can also trigger migraines, usually when temperatures are high. It may lead to sinus headaches too when there is a shift in the density of the air in the atmosphere.
Avoid headache triggers during hot days, and always have NSAID available on hand.

Lack of sleep can cause you headache. If you have insomnia, it will cause you to have low levels of the serotonin hormone which causes blood vessels in your brain to dilate and activate the trigeminal nerve, leading to inflammation and the release of pain-causing chemicals.
Go to bed and get a regular sleep routine, cut down on caffeine, and exercise regularly.

You smelled a bad perfume or scent, which can cause trigeminal nerve that is present in the linings of your nose, which can cause the nerve to release substances involved in causing headaches.
Avoid strong scents/perfumes that irritates you.

Avoid foods that contain amino acid tyramine such as red wine and aged cheeses, hotdogs, deli cold cuts and other processed meats, and chocolate.
These all can cause blood vessels to constrict and expand causing migraines.
Skipping meals can trigger migraines too! It's because your brain is hypersensitive to fluctuations in blood sugar.
Eat on a regular schedule and include high protein foods in your meals to help you keep satiated and maintain blood sugar levels. Drink plenty of water as well. Take note those food that give you headache and avoid eating them.

Donating A Car

It was two months ago when both I and my husband thought of doing a car donation for a good cause. We had this old car that has been sitting on the garage for 3 years or more and its parts started to break down. But other than that, the battery is still good and can still run. So we thought it can still benefit somebody who needs a car with only some minor repairs needed. So, we did gave it and the feeling is quite fulfilling as well :).

We currently have one car now, but it's not a big deal! We might get a new one when I'll star driving ;).

How To Regain Back Your Sleep

Are you at times being attacked by insomnia? And you follow all the rules to go back to sleep and is not working? Or is it always a cause of a quick waking up for a trip to the bathroom and turned out into a wakeful night? The following may help:

Don't turn your bright light when you go bathroom because bright light suppresses the secretion of melatonin, a hormone that tells the brain it's time to sleep. It also causes the brain to tell you to start the day. So rule is; - don't flip that overhead light!

If you have to wake up, make it quick! But as much as possible avoid lights coming from your phone as well because it holds a bright light source.

If these don't still work, go to your living room, use a dim lamp and read something or you can do relaxation exercises. Return to bed when you get drowsy again; If the sleep never comes, it's probably time to go take shower and start your day. It's vital not to catastrophize a night or two of insomnia - remember, tomorrow is another night.

Get rid of watching the clock. That doesn't help you to make you happier about your situation.

The Worst Sleep Mistakes

So, you can now assess yourself if you are currently practicing a good sleeping habits! Here are 5 things you might be practicing, but watch out...it's not advisable ;).

Drinking alcohol makes you more likely to wake up several times during the night.

Watching TV too close to bedtime is not ideal. The light and content are both incredibly alerting.

There should be no pets in the bedroom because cats prowl and dogs snore.

Consider figuring out how much you tend to sleep at the end of a long vacation, and see the result if you get too much sleep. If you wake up before the alarm goes off, that's the magic number.

The need for sleep builds up over the day and should peak right around when you go to bed at night.

There you go...a few tips should do the trick of practicing good sleeping habits ;).

But hold on a second!...all luxurious furniture are NOT expensive particularly if you are buying them directly at a factory price. You can save big for that, right?
Take for instance, if you are thinking of owning a French furniture for your own home doesn't need to be expensive.

Protecting Your Property Value This Summer

Spotting troubles on your house at an early stage can save you a lot of money before repairs get too much! So, why not do a scan or ocular assessment on your rooftop for any cracks, loose or missing shingles. It's one of the best way to spot any troubles early and make early repairs.

Be sure that water from your sprinkler system doesn't reach your home or deck which can cause the wood to rot easily.

Soil surrounding the house should slope down from the walls so that rainwater runs away from your foundation. Saturated soil around the foundation can also lead to rot and mold within the walls.

Clean your hot-water heater tank for any residue and other crud that collects at the bottom. This decreases the heater's efficiency. So before draining the tank (at least once a year), cut the power first, then change the sediment filter once a year as well if needed.

Watch out for termites and carpenter ants during summer. Look out on the foundation of your windows and walls for signs, including mud tubes, piles of sawdust, small holes in the wood or highway of ants. If you spot any of those, call your bug expert guy!

Prep your wood deck for a season of damaging sun and rain. Clean it thoroughly and wait for a day or 2 to apply a semitransparent stain. This can save you from shelling out $10,000 for a new wood deck, For a can of stain, it can cost you $35 that can already cover 300 square feet.

Back From The Cruise And Another Struggle!

Just barely a day after we were back from our cruise last Monday, my mom-in law were brought to the hospital for chest pains. {sigh!} I don't know...but since her son died 2 weeks ago, she was starting to get all sorts of problems, from being easily irritated, annoyed to panic attacks to all types of pains. She would also worry a lot about people around her and for herself probably??

It should be understandable..she is 88 years old and sooner or later, she can "give in". Although we are still praying that it should NOT be at this time yet...we feel we are not yet ready for her if ever she will leave us :(.

I am praying for my husband because this is an extra "run around" for him at the midst of his busy schedules at work. I felt I can't do anything because I am not driving yet! :(.
I have to be sure that I'll let him feel my support and prayers for him and for mom. It's a struggle for both of us...our life routines had both been changed instantly because of this.

Things You Have To Know About The Price of Bedbugs

Bedbugs seem to be spreading in wider territories nowadays...movie theaters, restaurants, hotels, apartments, offices and even inside your own home!
Watch out if you are a frequent traveler because hotels and inns are the ones which seemed to have been hit hard.

If you get worried that you think your home is at risk, you might want to consider buying Climbup Interceptors (available at bedbugcentral.com) and you can place those plastic moats under the legs of your furniture.
Consider mattress and box spring covers as well which you can buy online.

Early detection is the key. You pay for less if you detect them early. Unless you live in an apartment building where bugs have been found, you might need a $200-$300 inspection by a big-sniffling dog!
Check your bed - behind the headboard, inside plastic corners of your box spring, mattress seams or piping regularly. If you are tipped of by bites, that is obvious!

Try washing infested items or spot- treating them with a hot blow dryer or steam cleaner. Also, consider buying over the counter sprays that are not too harsh for your health. Although all natural sprays haven't yet shown to be effective according to a research.

Bottom line is; -a DIY remedy would become more costly in the long run if calling for a pro is delayed. It is always best to start with a licensed pest control expert with bedbug experience.

Ask several pros how much they charge (by room, by square footage) and what techniques do they use. Most pest pros use combined treatments such as heating and freezing and pesticides. They are 20-30% more expensive than other treatments but worth it.

Show Your Feet Some Love!

We women do sometimes neglect caring our feet maybe because "foot care" has less-than-sexy connotations. But did you know that those stilettos can make your feet hurt like hell for a reason?
An inch of heels can increase the pressure on your feet by 22%. Two inches can add up to 57% and 3 inches can add up to 76% which mean that those pressures make those toes crammed into a tight area. Long term results can be very unslutry bunions or clawlike hammertoes!
Another bad effects would cause calf muscles to clench up and eventually tighten making it hard to walk normally even on days you will wear flats.

In order to have a happy feet, try the following tips ;).

Try not to stand or walk with heels higher than 2 inches for more than 4 hours straight! If you happen to be wearing one for a night, just be sure to ice your feet when you get home to prevent any swelling or pain.

Do your shoe shopping in the afternoon since feet tend to be at its most swollen size at the end of the day.

Use orthopedic inserts into your flats for extra arch cushioning.

Always maintain a healthy weight since every pound you gain means extra weight of pressure in your ankle region.

Try massaging your arches by rolling your feet over a tennis ball for a few minutes daily.
Stretch your ankle and calf by extending your knee, then place a towel around the ball of your foot and pull toes toward you.

Are you experiencing redness during the winter? Dry air and chilly temperatures are the main culprits. The flushing is usually temporary but it can linger if it is due to irritation.

A simple solution is to treat the temporary flushing with a cold compress. Soak a washcloth in ice water or cold milk - if your skin is irritated due to cold wind. Then leave it on for a few minutes. Put a dab of Aquaphor unto your chafed, dry skin right after.

Skin is mostly irritated by laundry detergents, itchy fabrics or even skin care ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids and retinol. Try using a rich moisturizer with ceramide, niacinamide or glycerin that can protect the skin barrier. Put it on your skin after shower and after cleansing at night.

If redness persists, a dermatologist can tell you whether you need potent antibiotics or just light treatments.

Good Deals On Coat Racks

I know the importance of at least having coat racks at home. We only have one standing coat rack, but if your house is big, I think it should be nicer having at least couple of them or more than that depending on how many people are living in the home, don't you think?

You would soon analyze how important it is to have one or more of them when Christmas or any family occasion would be held in your own home. Well, at least during winter season. Been there, done that!
So, go grab the chance of getting one while big discounts are still on. You might not need it in the summer, but winter for sure will come its way whether you like it or not! lol!

Cool Invitation Cards

How I wish I had discovered this site online earlier before I and my husband went for a two-week vacation in the Philippines last month!

We considered our vacation a big event with our family there, because we had three big events that we celebrated, - all family events!

Two nieces and a nephew graduated from one school at the same time was super fun to watch, then a cousin of mine got married, while another member of our family had a birthday. All we did the entire time was eat and celebrate! lol.

So, I was thinking I should have just ordered various invitations online so we didn't have to waste our time inviting people by calling them and all...{sigh!}. If you could just imagine the hassles of inviting family relatives by just going from house to house? Well, I happened to have a big family in the Philippines!
It would be a lesson learned. I should know where to order and get my invitations as well as what to recommend to friends and families who will be having occasions next time we go back for a vacation!

I surely agree to the fact that ordering invitations online is much much better than buying ready-made invitation cards in the store. I still prefer customizing it, - designs, colors, styles and the message! Besides, I consider it more unique having it that way, and in the Philippines, it is a rare thing to have party invitations customized because most people are used to buying ready-made party invitations at the stores!
The fact that it would also be affordable, I can save more and I can say they are proudly Made in the USA! ;) I know they would love that.

Thanks Invitationbox.com for letting me know about your service. I love your designs too!
Hhhhmmm...another nephew of mine is graduating next year, yey! There is a reason for us to go back and once again be with the family for our nephew's graduation. Something to look forward to...how exciting!

Getting Your Safe Tan This Summer

Oh yes, summer is approaching! That means it should be outdoor fun! Most people love to be tanned during summer. But you don't need to make you skin suffer under the scorching heat of the sun to get your tan.
Aren't you glad there is a tanning spray that can do much help and one of the most ideal option to do? Of course, there are lots of sunless tanning methods nowadays such as sunless tanning lotions and sprays and airbrush tanning as well.

Besides, these are much safer to consider than having a tan under the sun which can usually end up in overdoing it leading to skin cancer and sun burns.

Staying Cold & Flu - Free This Season!

Whether we like it or not, wherever we go, we're not so safe to say we are totally protected from colds or flu especially if people around you would start sniffling, coughing and sneezing!
But seriously, we can lower our odds of getting ill by taking simple precautions to avoid germs and boost our immune system.

Always say yes to flu shot. The ideal time to get it is before the onset of flu season (November - December) but it's never too late to do it these days.

Eat food such as high-quality protein like fish, lean meats and beans which are needed to help build white blood cells (body defenders); take brightly colored fruits and veggies too which provide immune-boosting antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids.

Exercise keeps you from getting sick by stimulating the immune cells that target cold infections. Just don't overdo it. Heavy exertions like marathon may increase your risk of catching seasonal bugs allowing the virus to gain a foothold.

Hydrate inside and out. So, keep the air at home warm and moist. Maintain around 50% humidity and set room temperatures to at least 69% by using a humidifier.
Proper body hydration is essential as well. So drink a lot of water.

Who Loves Scrapbooking?

I am sure you are aware about how many love scrapbooking. But I am not talking about digital...I am talking about handmade scrapbooking!
Do you love handmade scrapbooking? It's a great hobby for many.
So, here are some tips that would help you become better at it ;).

All around the world, scrapbooking is mostly common and popular. Products related to the hobby can be found just about anywhere. Locally made albums such as for instance albums made of elephant dung in Africa, banana leaves in Thailand or papyrus in Egypt can be great souvenirs and will also add a special touch to your travel themed scrapbook.
Handmade papers are another great shopping find that can be used in your scrapbooks.

Save those ticket stubs, napkins from your fave restaurant or that label from your favorite local beverage. You can bring with you a Manila envelope or a ziplock bag when you travel and put all your paper scraps, attraction admission buttons, labels, business cards and other "souvenirs" including such fun items like flattenned pennies and colorful drink umbrellas. All of these items can help the story of your vacation when presented on your scrapbook pages.

Don't forget the details which can make a vacation memorable. In addition to photographing the main tourist attractions and your family, don't forget to capture these small but essential elements.

Always carry a small notebook in which you can jot down dates, time, names and any other special anecdotes or stories that you want to remember. They all especially come in handy when journaling.

Homemade Mother's Day Gift Baskets You Can Give to Mom

Mother's day is an important day of the year to show your love and care for your mom. However, the times are tough everywhere, and budgets are stretched. Thus, Mother's Day gift baskets that you create on your own can be a great budget saver when giving gifts to your mom on Mother's day.

The first thing you need to do in making a homemade gift basket for Mother's day is to look around in order to get ideas. You need to get the container for your gift items. You can get a wicker kind of basket that may complement the decor of the home. If you want a fashionable and reusable basket, then a gift basket that is plastic is a fantastic choice.

You need to plan the decoration as well as the size of your basket. Buy a colored paper to wrap the gift basket and secure it with a scarf or ribbon as a tie. You mom can use the ties you will use as a second gift. Get some decorations based on the theme that you have in mind for the gift basket.

Once the container and the decorations are planned and ready, you are now ready to pick the items that go in the basket. When choosing for gift items, you have to make sure that they fit your mom's preference and taste. For example, you might be wondering which drink your mom like to receive between coffee and tea. Of course, if your mom loves to read the paper every morning over a cup of coffee, then you can buy mom her favorite gourmet coffee or coffee beans. If she has a favorite brand, then choose that coffee brand. You can add other things that your mom can use with her coffee such as coffee scoop, sugar, stirrers and coffee mug.

Once all the materials you need are available, you just need to arrange the gift items in the basket neatly. You can also add some candies and nuts between the empty spaces of the gift items. You can also fill the coffee mug with her favorite chocolate pieces. Wrap the entire basket with colored paper and tie it with a ribbon once all items are in.

Homemade Mother's Day gift baskets are unique and express the feelings that you want to show to your mom. When giving your gift on Mother's day, do not forget to include a custom card to greet your mom. A hug would be a wonderful addition too.

Care and Feeding For Your Infant

Infants normally spits up as part of their daily feedings but when it seems excessive or when your baby is fussy with feedings, coughing or choking while feeding, acid reflux may be the problem.

Most infants have reflux due to poorly coordinated gastrointestinal tract. Reflux typically starts in the first month of life and gets worse between then and 4 months of age. The standard guide used as basis for parents is that 98% of kids will get better by 18 months of age.

If your baby has reflux symptoms, it helps to make positioning changes before and after feeding. Following a feeding, it may also help to recline aand hold your baby chest-to-chest, and the longer the better, because that way, the stomach has time to empty.

Also, it may not be a good idea to feed your baby sitting in a swing or in a car seat as it causes increased pressure on the belly because of the way the hips are flexed.
