Sled Dogs Slaughter at Outdoor Adventures, Whistler

Reports and links on the internet have been circulating about a mass-dog killing at outdoor adventures Whistler, a company owned by Joey Houssian. It has been revealed publicly few months ago that 100 of Mr. Houssian's sled dogs were slaughtered by his former general manager Bob Fawcett due to a slowdown in the business.

This is so far one of the most horrible case to hear or see in the news! Although this case has been under investigation, the fact that some 100 dogs' lives (or even more?) had gone to waste just like that is a horrible nightmare!
It would be a sad thing to hear that just because a sled dog business is not thriving, dogs have to be killed...defenseless!

According to Joey Houssian, he claimed that he will take moral responsibility for everything that happens within his company while facts and legal responsibilities are still being investigated.

Ouch!

I got an upset stomach today...and I have been frequenting the bathroom 3 times already. Ugh!! It feels horrible, and I wonder if this has something to do with what I ate?? Hhhmmm, not sure, but I had eaten vegetable salads for 2 days.
Anyway, I am feeling better now. I hope my stomach won't get that crampy feeling again. I felt all the food I ate were all wasted and now I'm beginning to get hungry. {sigh}
I guess I would just have to settle for a soup for a while. My tummy needs a little break.

If Your Blood pressure Starts Inching Up...

Blood pressure readings include 2 numbers. For example, your blood pressure could be 110 over 75. The first number is systolic, which means this is the pressure on your artery walls during a heart beat.
The second number is called diastolic, the pressure between beats.

Below is the scale that doctors use:
  • Normal blood pressure: lower than 120 over 80
  • Prehypertension: lower than 130 over 90
  • High blood pressure: 140 over 90 or higher
Your risk for hypertension rises when your blood pressure enters the pre hypertension range.
You can prevent high blood pressure by choosing the right lifestyle choices like;
  • losing excess weight
  • exercising at a medium rate for at least 30 minutes on most days.
  • eating diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains and low-fat dairy products.
  • watching how much saturated fat, total fat and cholesterol you eat.
  • aiming for no more than 2,300mg. of sodium a day.
Sodium is in many foods that you don't think of as being salty, yet these foods can make your BP rise. So, always check the Nutrition Facts label to make sure you aren't eating too much sodium.

Surprising Sources of Sodium:
  • chocolate pudding (1/2 cup) - 417mg.
  • tomato pasta sauce (1 cup) - 1,203mg.
  • rye bread (1 slice) - 211mg.
  • baked beans (1 cup) - 856mg.
  • fried fish fillet, breaded or battered - 484mg.
  • American cheese (1 oz.) - 422mg.
  • canned vegetable soup (1 cup) - 1,010mg.

There are still days of cooler temperatures at times in a week, but it's not too bad. It cools me down ;).

Cell Isolation

In today's modern technology, every discovery becomes interesting particularly if it involves the human body's cell components.

Take the case for example about a powerful immunomagnetic column-free cell isolation system called EasySep that can target cells to crosslink with magnetic particles using specific antibodies. These cells can then be categorized as either desired cells or unwanted cells and then separated by an EasySep magnet. An instrument called RoboSep can then do a true walk-away automation of immunomagnetic cell isolation through EasySep's cell labellings and magnetic separation steps.
I have to agree that promoting these products is a smart idea for the betterness of all, don't you think?

It's kind of interesting learning more how these products work, and so overwhelming to know how technology has been improving so quickly in a highly advanced stage!

How to Pick a Crab

When steaming hot crabs hit the table, experienced hands grab first. Here's how to pick whole crabs.
  1. Remove the whole claws by twisting them away from the body. Guard them carefully but don't eat them yet.
  2. Turn crab upside down, and pry off the apron (small piece on the abdomen).
  3. Pry off carapace (top shell) and discard along with innards and gray, spongy gills (called "dead man's fingers").
  4. Snap crab's body in half right down the middle, separating the 2 sets of legs.
  5. Prod the white meat out of the honeycomb - like, framework of the crab's body using the sharp end of one claw as a picking tool.
  6. Crack large leg pieces with a crab cracker, mallet or kitchen shears (if shells are soft enough), and remove meat.
  7. Crack claw pieces with a cracker or mallet, and remove meat.

Healthy Bread Essentials for Life

Whole-wheat flour: High in fiber and nutrients like iron and calcium. It's a healthy substitute for white. (add extra water to the recipe.)

Rye flour: It helps maintain even blood sugar levels. Doughs made with it will be more dense since it's low in gluten than wheat.

Spelt flour: This is easier to digest than other forms of wheat for many. It's also low in gluten, the reason why breads made with it don't hold their shape and need to be baked in a mold or pan.

Quinoa flour: Loaded with amino acids, gluten-free quinoa flour has a nutty flavor when baked.

Family Time

This guest post from Hong Alexander

My family dragged me on a family trip that I did not want to go on. Every Friday, we have a habit of going bowling. They sprung the good news as I set the Adt home security alarm on the way out. My parents were so excited but, the last thing I wanted to do was spend a whole week in a cramped cabin with my two little sisters. I mean I only want to kill them half the time, how could I possibly have fun? Boy, was I wrong.

The cruise was the most amazing experience ever! We saw dolphins, rode jet skis, tanned by the pool and so much more just to name a few things! We got to go to the kids club and there were so many other teens my age that I never felt really suffocated by my family. I loved seeing Aztec ruins in Mexico even though it was wicked hot. My family and I defiantly bonded and I am so glad that my parents chose a cruise as a vacation for all of us. I know my little sisters enjoyed themselves whenever their was a photographer they made sure the were in the camera lens. They can be pretty cute sometimes. I must say I was impressed and I will not knockthe next vacation like this one.

How to Maximize s Small Garden

Whether or not your backyard has gorgeous vistas, in a small garden every element shows. So, make the most of the details with quality materials and accessories as well as compact plants.

First, green up the walls with vines. The clinging vine drops its leaves in winter, and thrives in shade or sun.

Second, streamline your pots by planting a single dwarf shrub in a shapely contemporary container, - the most ideal and best choice for a tight space.

Third, finish a shrub border by nestling in a container or bowl that matches the nearby wall''s hues.

Lastly, choose small trees as accents, such as 'Sango Kuku' Japanese maple, or other low-growing maples. (3-5ft. tall)
Filtered shade is the best maintenance.

Organizing Your Garage

Who doesn't want a gorgeous garage? During winter, many people scramble to make space for their car in the garage.
Make time to clean it thoroughly, organize and de-clutter it to make it safer and more user-friendly.

Determine in advance how you'll store items so you'll have the necessary containers on hand when you start the job.

Take everything outside and clean the inside. Sweep the floor and wipe shelves. Use a cat litter box to soak up residue from oil or fluid spills or leaks.

Sort together all tools and gardening equipments, sporting goods, seasonal stuff, outdoor furniture and bagged materials such as potting soil, seeds, sand, etc.
Be sure to have "trash" and "donate" piles as well.

Do an evaluation such as if some thing belongs in your house, retain it there. If you're into online selling or garage sales, create a "sale" area.
Ask yourself: Have I used this in years? Will I use it again? Will I ever fix it again if it doesn't work? Do I really need it? Group items that are hazardous like old PC's, light bulbs, paints and leftover chemicals, which need safe disposal. Store them in a secure, convenient location so you can drop them off at the appropriate recycling facility when you have the time.

Take back what you're keeping. Get space as much as possible off the floor. If there is enough space under the roof, consider hanging items such as bikes from the ceiling. Use laundry baskets or stackable plastic storage containers for odd-shaped items or small tools and sporting equipments. Use pegboard, hooks or wall strips to store brooms, rakes, shovels, etc. safely. If necessary, attach items to wall studs for added support.

Be sure to maintain your newly clean space. If tempted by old habits, just remember what re-cluttering involved, then you'll be more likely to return items to their proper places, maintaining garage safety in the process.

How to Whiten Your Teeth Effectively

Did you know that peroxide in whitening treatments doesn't work for everyone? In this case, you might want to check your teeth color this way:

Hold a piece of white paper next to your teeth. If your teeth seem yellow, the treatment will work. If they look gray, staining is from within and can only be fixed by covering them with bonding or veneers.

At-home whitening treatments which use peroxide are effective although not as fast as in office treatments.

Prep your teeth before whitening them and they should be as clean as possible. If you prefer, do it right after a cleaning at the dentist, so the peroxide is in direct contact with your enamel, not plaque.

Follow it up by brushing your teeth with a whitening toothpaste to prevent new stains. Avoid dark mouthwashes, - once the alcohol evaporates, the pigment will stain.

Drink and eat right. Take water after you drink coffee or red wine. It takes 30 seconds for a pigment to penetrate, so water will wash it away.
Try adding skim milk to your coffee to help avoid pigments, as well as eating foods rich in cellulose like carrots, celery and kale.
