Are You Normal ABout Your Weight?
Do you like what you are seeing on your scale? Hate it? And how typical is it, anyway?
There are least 8 "weird" things we should know about our weight and take note...they are very, very normal :).
- Gaining 3 pounds overnight. According to New York city nutritionist Keri Gans, R.D., it's often a water weight due to hormonal fluctuations or a salty dinner.
- Keeping some baby weight. A year after giving birth, the average woman weighs 3.3 pounds more than she did pre pregnancy.
- Taking weight off slowly. About a pound per week is typical-and healthy. "When you lose weight too quickly you gain it right back." says Gans.
- Packing on pounds when you shack up. Research shows women often gain weight after marriage.
- Smoking to stay skinny-half of women in one survey said they do. But it's a bad idea says Gans. The risks of smoking far outweigh the risks of a few extra pounds.
- Ignoring the only proven weight loss plan. Just 19% of women cut calories and exercise regularly to drop pounds.
- Lying to men about weight: One study found 59% of women who date online underreport it by 8 pounds on average.
- Not wanting to be model-thin-71% of women wouldn't choose to be a size 0 or 2 and would prefer more curves.
