The best thing to protect yourself from this illness is to get your vaccine. It protects against the bacteria called pneumococcus which can result in;
- pneumonia
- meningitis (infection of the covering of your brain)
- a blood infection
- ear infections
You are as well most likely to get serious pneumococcal infections if you are;
- age 65 or older
- have diabetes
- have chronic heart, lung. kidney or liver disease.
If you have kids under age 2, they are at high risk of these infections, so see and ask your doctor if you or your child needs this vaccine.
