Getting To Know Your "Cape May Diamonds"!

One interesting trip you should try is to visit Cape May, New Jersey and head down to Sunset Beach at the end tip of Sunset Blvd.
It is here where you can find a pure quartz crystal looking like a white frosted pebble, made out from a natural stone. These stones can be best seen and are often collected by many visitors just off-shore of Sunset Beach, close to the sunken ship, - the S.S. Atlantus. They come ashore continously making thousands of visitors each year to collect them.

Right where I am standing at is the actual area where these stones are located. When the stones are tumbled and cut, these quartz pebbles turn into clear sparkling gems and are called "Cape May Diamonds." The best time to collect is on cold, windy days or just after storms. It was windy when we were there, and some people were able to find some small pebbles ;). I got NADA!...I couldn't bear the cold and wind. Lol!

But if you are persistent enough to go "diamond hunting", - you need to have a sand shovel, a beach bucket and a beach sieve to shake off the sand! Most of the pebbles have typical sizes like that of a pea and comes with a variety of colors and shapes. But honestly, if you ever wonder if Cape May Diamonds are real, - the answer is NO! They are not actually diamonds at all, but just look like real diamonds when they are purely polished and cut!
The pair of earrings I bought costs 40 bucks! :) They are but great souvenirs to have though. They sell them at the gift shop close to the beach. Prices vary as some are made with pendants and bracelets, necklaces and rings attached to them.
The price can run up to $265 or more if attached to a 14K gold ring or pendant necklace with a 6-mm stone.

If you bought Cape May Diamonds jewelries, be aware that it needs cleaning maintenance, as it becomes cloudy, - a sign that needs to be cleaned. It is also recommended NOT to wear your jewelry while in the shower or washing the dishes because soap can dull the shine faster than when you normally wear it.
The most effective way of cleaning it is with water and Mr. Clean! But you can use Windex or other ammonia cleaners as well.
Use a soft toothbrush to clean it then rinse it in hot water, and dry.
Then, back to the sparkles again! :)

Vital Facts About Cranberries

A ripe cranberry if thrown on the ground will bounce back like a super ball! But on the other hand, it's also a super food! The reason why?
It acts as sanitizers in the human body when taken. Those plant chemicals present in cranberries keep bacteria away to certain areas of the human body and help prevent stomach ulcers, UTI's and also gum diseases.

For a cool idea, you can make a cocktail idea out of it too ;). Blend a handful of fresh cranberries mixed with 2 tablespoons of honey, and then mix 2 tbsps. of the puree with a shot of vodka and seltzer, half a shot of triple sec., and a squeeze of lime. Otherwise, make ayummy relish out of it, perfect with your chicken or turkey.

You don't need to spend a lot of money going to the gym iiif you're dreaming  of becoming slim. The secret is just a grapefruit diet which was actually tried way back by having grapefruit intake 3 meals a day; - breakfast, lunch and dinner.
According to a recen research, grapefruit is a powerful diet food. This study had revealed that women who consumed amount of grapefruit juice weighed nearly less than 10 pounds and also had 6% lower body mass index (BMI) than non-grapefruit users.

Researchers aren't actually sure what makes this fruit a powerful weight loss food, but according to a study at the University of Florida, it could be that it is due to its high water content, which when you take it helps you feel fuller and more satisfied with just on fewer calories. A half of a medium - sized grapefruit or an 8-oz. glass of its juice has fewer than 100 calories each. It is also rich in Vitamin C, potassium and magnesium.

If you're a performer musician you can't just imagine groping in the dark trying to read your musical notes without a light, or it is just that the light is too dim. That's super annoying, and can badly affect your performance too! Let there be a bright light, and a heavenly music will be delivered to your audience completely, don't you think? ;)

A Rare Find!

So, ten days ago, while I and my husband was walking while doing a tour in Washington DC, we noticed a sparkling jewel on the pathwalk. The narrow road wasn't crowded but it was pretty busy that day because of the embassies having open houses for the public to visit at the nation's capital.
My husband picked it up, and gave it to me. I thought it was just an ordinary bangle, but it is a Michael Kors brand. I verified it from MK website online, and it was the real thing.

The bangle is a Bedford Gold-Tone Buckle Bangle. It is not that super expensive, but not super cheap either ;). I wore it on my wrist the same day we found it, and it's lock is really kinda loose, that it fell off my wrist several times. No wonder, the owner of this bangle lost it. :(

Since we didn't know who owns it, I just kept it. For sure, if we saw the bangle fell from a person's wrists, we would surely let her know, but it was on the ground without anyone close to it except us.

If you happened to be the owner, let me know...and please show me your purchase receipt just in case! ;)

Support American Blood Clot Association!

According to many studies, there has been a low awareness level with regards to the dangers and educational information about diseases involving blood clots.
The best way to prevent them is early detection. The American Blood Clot Association (ABCA) is making this a top priority by conducting efforts to reach out to people through educating them and sharing them vital information about the danger signs and symptoms of these diseases.

Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are just two of the major illnesses that affect many thousands of Americans from blood clots. More than 2 million Americans are surprisingly being diagnosed yearly being affected by DVT or pulmonary embolism, while at least more than 200,000 Americans die every year because of the mentioned diseases as well.

It is not enough to just know the signs and symptoms that these diseases can do. We need to involve ourselves in helping the public raise awareness to prevent the disease.
ABCA couldn't do this alone without the people's support. Why not get in touch with ABCA today? You can get involved and organize your own event, or share your experience, or donate for some financial help too.

It's not too late to be concerned. As we join with ABCA for agood cause, we are not only helping ABCA and other people, but helping ourselves too.

Considering To Take Your Groom's Name? Or Yours?

Most women do! I did too! :)
But some have personal choices not to. But if you are considering sticking on your name, think it carefully. Your decision can help you by considering the long-term implications for your family, marriage, career, finances, children and relationships.

Make sure to discuss whether or not you'll be changing your name with your future in-laws and parents before the wedding. If you are not changing it, be sensitive to your groom's family, particularly if they were expecting you to be the newest "Mrs. Green."

If you choose not to change it, check your jurisdiction in your city hall to find out about the name-changing process in your area.
Plan on filing papers either locally or online at least 30-90 days before your wedding.

Take note that you can't get your marriage certificate on the day you got married, but will be mailed to you few weeks later. But you can already use your new married name as soon as you sign the license.

Once you have your marriage certificate in hand, notify your institution that has your name on file, - such as the Social Security office, DMV, the IRS, your employer, etc...

How To Maintain A Healthy Lawn

Who doesn't want to have a healthy lawn?...afterall, we all want to have a pretty home with a healthy lawn, isn't it?
If you love working on your lawn, you can lessen your traumatic stress by following some simple tricks that work:

First, be sure to sharpen the blade of your mower. A dull blade can destroy your grass, leaving jagged edges that will turn to brown, and can result to disease. Re-sharpen your blade anytime you hit a rock, a large branch or a root.

When trimming, don't cut too much at once. Just trim no more than 1/3 of the grass blades overall height at a time. At least a weekly mowing schedule can help you stay and maintain the 1/3 target. If you missed a week, raise the deck and make 2 shallow passes instead of a deep cut.

You can leave a grass lawn with 3-4 inches long. This way, it can block weeds, keeping the soil moist, and as it grows deeper can develop a drought-resistant roots. You can then make a shorter cut in the fall, making leaf-raking easier.

Vary your mowing pattern to avoid compacting the soil. If your mowing pattern will be left to right in the weekend, shift it to an up and down pattern the next time, and diagonally after that.

Essential Wardrobes For Spring

Can't wait for spring to finally come! I know it feels we still have a long way to go through a lot of winter storms and snows before we could see the colorful nature pop out once again. But being a positive thinker myself, the harsh effects of winter will come to pass! ;)

And talking about wardrobe, while we have to endure the 3-4 layers (or even more) just to bundle up for winter, we can start preparing our shopping lists on what we can comfortably wear in spring with a simple yet classy look.

Here are some ideas I got from my valuable reads:

• Choosing bright accessories. You can choose to have bursts of colors that can punctuate your collections.
• Try a white blazer that are made of silk-linen. It can be worn with preppy polo shirts, - and can look crisp and clean.
• A high-wasted, wide-leg pants can be a perfect trend for you. You can pair it with a top that has a few frills, and you can even get that Summer of Love feeling. ;)
• A diaphanous dress. An ideal one would be a dress made of sheer cotton, silk or satin. This can feel light, soft and romantic.
• A white shirt. Choose a loose one, but not baggy, and pair it with indigo flared jeans.

There you go! You're good to go before spring comes.

Food-Fighting Colds

Our grandma has always been teaching us aboutt some pantry cures for a case of the sniffles, but did you know that this is always true? Yes, it is backed by sience!! Here are the evidences:

Chicken soup. - It's the steam coming from the soup - with its magical blend of ingredients. This was suggested by one study. It helps clear out a stuffy nose.

Tea - Drinking a mug of hot tea will also help relieve congestion. Green and black teas may have anti-viral effects too, and have some anti-inflammatory effects as well which can help shrink inflamed tissues in your throat, according to Dr. Hagen.

Garlic - It has an anti-microbial effect although you have to eat a ton to get the virus-killing benefits :).

Orange Juice - it might not be the best bet but it can increase your fluids and vitamin C's, but according to a research, vitamin C's cold fighting effects isn't definitive. Just be watchful as it is high in calories, so just stick to one glass, then switch to tea or water.

The Proper Washing of Hands

Nothing beats like scrubbing your hands with soap and water for at least 15-20 seconds when it comes to avoiding colds and flu. But sometimes, if we can't get to a nearby sink or washing area, it's an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is a good alternative, although it can't get rid as many germs as soap and water can.
When applying your hand sanitizer, just be sure that rub on it for 20 seconds, and do not wipe it off, but let it air dry; - part of the process of killing the bacteria.

Are Your Finances In Order?

Being organized at home with things and other stuff is mostly a fulfilling task done. I am very particular in organizing and my husband can attest to that ;).
But did you know that one key component of organizing in your life includes getting your financial in order as well?

While many would probably say it may sound like a tough challenge, it can be easier in some ways and even probably enjoyable.

These tips can help;

  • First, try categorizing your expenses for a few months. This will help you gain control of your spending, so you can set a budget for each category tracking your progress every month.
  • Plan and focus for your daily purchases as well. Don't let your groceries or a cup of coffee get through your credit card balance, as you'll be paying large amount of interests.
This is one simple, but helpful guide to decluttering your finances. An organized finances will be worth it in the end as you'll be reaping the benefits year-round.

Stay-Safe Guides To Beat Summer Health Hazards

Summer is over, but it always comes every year, so I guess this post can still be handy at all times, to guide you when summer comes around. I won't consider it a late post or way much too early. Just think of it as a important thoughts as to how you could enjoy the outdoors by staying safe and avoiding the dangers.

If you love summer, and you have little kids that love outdoors too, take note that the dangers of the outdoor are everywhere. (actually not only summer, but also applies for the rest of the seasons too). But the fact that many of our children stay outside in the summer, we don't want them or us to spoil the fun we enjoy during the summer months. So, better yet stay on the safety zone guides.

If you love to jog, don't do it to a path you haven't walked first. This would only lead to sprains or slips.

Practice safety in gardening, like bending, lifting or twisting your body carefully as these can be strenous. Use tools with long handles to avoid stooping over too much.

Save your skin from developing a heat rash! It can help to wear breathable cotton clothing, avoid use of too much ointments and creams because they block sweat ducts. If you use sunscreens, use oil-free ones. If you develop a rash, get out of the heat and apply cold compresses. It also helps to use an OTC hydrocortisone cream to relieve itching.

Learn to familiarize harmful plants such as poison ivy, oak and sumac, as well as any hardy creepers that can be at the beach, on your backyard and even at the parks.

If you think you've come in contact with a harmful plant, wash immediately with soap and water. Follow it up with a hydrocortisone cream, calamine lotion diphenhydramine cream or oral antihistamines to help ease itching or swelling.

Beware of bees and mosquitoes. Sweet drinks are attractive to bees while standing water are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Avoid what these bugs like most, and you should be okay.

You can avoid stingers as well by not wearing bright-colored clothes. Dress in light colors like pastels. Besides, pastel colors can also help you spot ticks much easier if you happened to encounter one. By the way, avoid perfumes because it also attracts bees.

If you'll be staying outdoors for a long time, or you live where mosquitoes and ticks are common, spray your clothing with permethrin (repellant); - don't spray it on skin!
Otherwise, if you are staying outdoors for shorter stints, spray a skin-safe bug repellant such as Off! The more concentration, the longer they work.
If you are bitten, get some ice and compress on the affected area to keep swelling and itching to a minimum.

If you develop hives/itching all over and facial swelling or have trouble breathing, call 911. If you develop fever and aches, it can be signs of Lyme disease or a West Nile virus infection (transmitted by mosquitoes). See your doctor ASAP!

Setting A Beautiful Table The Right Way

Courtesy from Overstock

If you love to entertain at home, it would be nice to impress your guests on how you would handle table settings too, right? The following tips can probably help you if you don't have much experience setting tables for your home.

It's better to mix designs and color than matching them. For instance, if you have colorful sets of plates, you can use napkins and a tablecloth with the same shade but not the pattern. Avoid having everything in stripes!

It would also be nice to use a tablecloth as it unifies everything. Use large plates that are a base for the dinner salad, and dessert plates that easily come and go. Then, put 2 glasses per setting, - one for water and another for wine.

Choose centerpieces that are low that never hinders eye contact among guests. Flowers with 1 or 2 colors are ideal, and be sure they're not too fragrant so to avoid competing with the food.
If you use candles, they should also be scent-free and keep them low.

Herbs like rosemary, sage or thyme are mostly ideal if you are serving Italian food.

Finish it right with a pitcher of water or sparkling water. Have your guests have everything they need within their reach.
