Managing Varicose Veins

It's one of those problems women should wish it will go away in a zap!
More than half of people 65 years and older have varicose veins. These are characterized by enlarged veins which are bluish-purple, twisted and bulging, and usually appear in the inner leg or backs of the calves.
Symptoms include aching, leg fatigue, swelling, numbness, itching, bleeding and darkening of the skin.
Treatment varies basing on the cause and extent of the problem. Your doctor may need to do simple tests to determine the best treatment for you.
Simple treatment is elevating your legs when at rest, avoid crossing legs when seated, and avoid prolonged standing or sitting. Use special stockings.
Severe varicose veins may need sclerotherapy, a procedure of injecting a solution into the vein that causes the walls to swell, stick together, and seal shut, which stops the flow of blood, then the vein becomes scar tissue.
Other treatments are radiofrequency and laser treatments.
In cases of very large varicose veins, your doctor may recommend surgery.
