Sled Dogs Slaughter at Outdoor Adventures, Whistler

Reports and links on the internet have been circulating about a mass-dog killing at outdoor adventures Whistler, a company owned by Joey Houssian. It has been revealed publicly few months ago that 100 of Mr. Houssian's sled dogs were slaughtered by his former general manager Bob Fawcett due to a slowdown in the business.

This is so far one of the most horrible case to hear or see in the news! Although this case has been under investigation, the fact that some 100 dogs' lives (or even more?) had gone to waste just like that is a horrible nightmare!
It would be a sad thing to hear that just because a sled dog business is not thriving, dogs have to be killed...defenseless!

According to Joey Houssian, he claimed that he will take moral responsibility for everything that happens within his company while facts and legal responsibilities are still being investigated.

Ouch!

I got an upset stomach today...and I have been frequenting the bathroom 3 times already. Ugh!! It feels horrible, and I wonder if this has something to do with what I ate?? Hhhmmm, not sure, but I had eaten vegetable salads for 2 days.
Anyway, I am feeling better now. I hope my stomach won't get that crampy feeling again. I felt all the food I ate were all wasted and now I'm beginning to get hungry. {sigh}
I guess I would just have to settle for a soup for a while. My tummy needs a little break.

If Your Blood pressure Starts Inching Up...

Blood pressure readings include 2 numbers. For example, your blood pressure could be 110 over 75. The first number is systolic, which means this is the pressure on your artery walls during a heart beat.
The second number is called diastolic, the pressure between beats.

Below is the scale that doctors use:
  • Normal blood pressure: lower than 120 over 80
  • Prehypertension: lower than 130 over 90
  • High blood pressure: 140 over 90 or higher
Your risk for hypertension rises when your blood pressure enters the pre hypertension range.
You can prevent high blood pressure by choosing the right lifestyle choices like;
  • losing excess weight
  • exercising at a medium rate for at least 30 minutes on most days.
  • eating diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains and low-fat dairy products.
  • watching how much saturated fat, total fat and cholesterol you eat.
  • aiming for no more than 2,300mg. of sodium a day.
Sodium is in many foods that you don't think of as being salty, yet these foods can make your BP rise. So, always check the Nutrition Facts label to make sure you aren't eating too much sodium.

Surprising Sources of Sodium:
  • chocolate pudding (1/2 cup) - 417mg.
  • tomato pasta sauce (1 cup) - 1,203mg.
  • rye bread (1 slice) - 211mg.
  • baked beans (1 cup) - 856mg.
  • fried fish fillet, breaded or battered - 484mg.
  • American cheese (1 oz.) - 422mg.
  • canned vegetable soup (1 cup) - 1,010mg.

Oh yes! The weather is getting warmer, and the beautiful spring colors are in full bloom! But of course, I still can't replace summer as my favorite of all, lol!
We have been experiencing lot of rains and thunderstorms lately, a tornado spared us couple of weeks ago, now, the sun is shining so brightly..I praise God for that.
There are still days of cooler temperatures at times in a week, but it's not too bad. It cools me down ;).
Summer, come sooner!

Cell Isolation

In today's modern technology, every discovery becomes interesting particularly if it involves the human body's cell components.

Take the case for example about a powerful immunomagnetic column-free cell isolation system called EasySep that can target cells to crosslink with magnetic particles using specific antibodies. These cells can then be categorized as either desired cells or unwanted cells and then separated by an EasySep magnet. An instrument called RoboSep can then do a true walk-away automation of immunomagnetic cell isolation through EasySep's cell labellings and magnetic separation steps.
I have to agree that promoting these products is a smart idea for the betterness of all, don't you think?

It's kind of interesting learning more how these products work, and so overwhelming to know how technology has been improving so quickly in a highly advanced stage!

How to Pick a Crab

When steaming hot crabs hit the table, experienced hands grab first. Here's how to pick whole crabs.
  1. Remove the whole claws by twisting them away from the body. Guard them carefully but don't eat them yet.
  2. Turn crab upside down, and pry off the apron (small piece on the abdomen).
  3. Pry off carapace (top shell) and discard along with innards and gray, spongy gills (called "dead man's fingers").
  4. Snap crab's body in half right down the middle, separating the 2 sets of legs.
  5. Prod the white meat out of the honeycomb - like, framework of the crab's body using the sharp end of one claw as a picking tool.
  6. Crack large leg pieces with a crab cracker, mallet or kitchen shears (if shells are soft enough), and remove meat.
  7. Crack claw pieces with a cracker or mallet, and remove meat.
